Behind The Scenes

Making A Music Video for 'Everybody'

Happy Substack Day!

I’m actually typing this to you as I consume a bag of giant pretzels, wondering if I melt some chocolate on them would that be a little bit dangerous for a Sunday night? Hehe.

So, I am delighted to tell you that the new video for ‘Everybody’ came out this week and I ADORE it. I hope you do too. Director Chris Fox has the Strum vibe down pat and has created an hilarious and yet really relatable music video for my single about… being single.

Take a look here and let me know if you spot any Easter eggs… 👀

We pulled the video together in about two weeks which is our quickest one yet.

If you’re into this kind of thing, here is how we got the thing off the ground…

Chris started off with the main concept- I would be playing the host of a QVC style TV station, having to sell loads of shitgifts to couples and get increasingly annoyed about it. Easiest acting gig EVAH.

From there we had a brainstorming session and several whatsapps coming up with overarching prop and costume ideas and Chris sourced the fab location- Hot Dog Studios and the amazing Phil to play my co-presenter.

We wanted to have a small dance piece in the video and pulled that together on the day as I got so caught up with getting the props and costume together. I sourced dresses from vintage stores and ASOS (looked for 80’s style garms and didn’t find much) and every so often, I found something so hilarious I had to share it with Chris- particularly the slanket which was an absolute find!

Here’s a snip of our original mood board. I was mega keen for the styling to be The Substance meets Joan. Totally doable on a nil budget obvs hehe.

From there it was plain sailing. Chris plotted the scenes on a storyboard and I think literally everything he mapped out was used which is crazy. We ran over on the day because we had so many ideas between us and just wanted it to look as premium as possible so kept pushing and pushing. I love collaborating with Chris on our videos. It is so wonderful that he ‘sees’ my music in a way that I cannot show myself.

Here’s to the next one!

So in other news, I played a gig at The Lord Taverner’s this week for the Zero Ducks Given charity event. The cricket chants have been uber popular- 500,000 views on Insta alone and I was so happy to go and sing a few of them live. David Gower was there and someone asked me to write a quick song for him so I did and that went down really well. I later sent it to David and he was incredibly kind about it.

Also, I am setting up some gigs that I would love you to come down to- they will be in store acoustic gigs with signings. I will let you know as more book up but will put deets below.

Thought For The Day

"Life, eh? It says everything without having to say anything: that we all experience moments of joyful or painful reflection, sometimes alone, sometimes sharing laughs and tears with others; that we all know and appreciate that however wonderful and precious life is, it can equally be a terribly confusing and mysterious beast". Miranda Hart
