It’s beginning to feel a lot like… emotional holiday moments, generational trauma and binge eating After Eights out of pure desperation… yup, it’s that time of year when we all compare our festive experiences to everyone else’s through life’s cruel Insta filter.
Allow me to be the first to be truly honest with you- I am not a huge fan of the Christmas holidays. I love the build up to the day itself but I find it all very bleak in that whole betwixtmas period. I end up starting new pointless hobbies (like rearranging the bins, considering cutting in bangs) and slowly unravel without the anchor of any sort of… raison d’etre!
It is also a time of deep unhealthiness for me, binge eating and eschewing the gym for marathon Lindsay Lohan-filled romcoms; a groundhog day of epic proportions. I just wanted to share that with you in case you are reading this wondering why the fuck you haven’t got number 12’s amazing Christmas door bow or number 11’s tan and abs. None of it matters really, as long as you have love in your heart- and let’s not knock self-love as an option. None of us are really having THE BEST Christmas/Hannukah etc. I mean, some of us are, but most of us; not really.
I will most likely be avoiding socialising with the excuse of needing to record and finesse my music for 2025, as I have a mega busy January ahead of me and a new single out 7th Feb. However, that doesn’t mean that my lovely little ADHD brain hasn’t allowed me to start a new lil side project… so here it is… Mama Mashup.
Here is a lil example of me mashing up Padam Padam vs Rush by Troye Sivan. Lush.
erm, ok… what the f is that, Alexis?
Well, I have always been a fan of the mashup- the art and indeed chemistry of mixing two opposing songs together to see what comes out. Back in the day I even wrote with Richard X, some might say the Lord Of The Mashup, so it feels apt that I have embarked on this new project on TikTok. Hence the name- you may now call me ‘Mama Mashup’. Or just plain ole Alexis, Leccie to my friends- your choice!
I am really really enjoying it and have been plugging away and plugging in all kinds of devices to make this happen for y’all and for the mashup-ing to commence. I am now the proud parent of an iRig Duo which allows me to directly plug my puter into my phone and make my voice and the music sound all decent. Not to be sniffed at, I can assure you!
So I will be uploading those over the Tok and just having fun with it. I’d love you to send me any suggestions of songs which you think go particularly well together. It’s been a great way to keep doing music with a broken finger- I broke it during a boxing class when paired up with a show-off who had never padded before FFS. It is healing well but I am too scared to try and pick up a guitar and have a good ole strum for now.
So that is today’s Substack for you- wrapped up beautifully in a festive bow.
I hope you have a really nice or even just average and not insufferable holiday period. Sometimes it is just good to switch off and do nowt at all.
I look forward to bringing you along on my journey in 2025. I am so pleased I started this Substack thanks to the wisdom of
